The festive period is well and truly upon us! We hope you are all getting ready for some lovely Christmas activities this month in the run up to the main event!
December can be such a busy month in care settings as you engage residents in wonderful Christmas activities and enjoy festive treats and gatherings. There are so many opportunities to celebrate and have some fun getting everyone into the Christmas spirit.
Many of your residents may not celebrate Christmas as part oftheir faith, and many others may find it a difficult time of year, so ensure you are sensitive to their needs and plan some alternative activities that can take part in.

WALT DISNEY DAY (1st Dec)
Celebrate Walt Disney Day with some fun and nostalgic Disney-themed activities! Walt Disney created some of the most lovable and famous characters of a generation, from Mickey Mouse and his friends, to the Jungle Book, Dumbo, Lady and the Tramp, and many Disney princesses! His films continue to be watched and adored by every new generation of children, which is a testament to his incredible talent.
CHRISTMAS DECORATING DAY (6TH DEC)
The festive period is well upon us all and it is time to get your care setting decorated! Hanging decorations can be such a great activity for everyone to engage in together. Make your own garlands to hang, or decorate your own baubles for the tree, a personal touch is lovely around this time of year. It will be sure to get everyone in the Christmas spirit and it will have yur care setting looking magical for the big day!
FIRST CORONATION STREET ON TELEVISION (9th Dec 1960)
Coronation Street is the longest running soap opera in the UK. It began in 1960 and is still running today with its scandalous storylines and lovable characters! There is something very familiar about Coronation Street and it will be a programme that many of your residents will have grown up watching – and many may still watch today! Enjoy discussing soap operas and watching some of the recent episodes.
FRANK SINATRA’S BIRTHDAY (12th Dec)
Frank Sinatra is considered one of the greatest singers of the 20th century. Known for his iconic voice, his career spanned over five decades and his music is still played across the world today. Nicknamed Ol Blue Eyes, he is arguably the most famous crooner of our time! Celebrate Frank Sinatra’s birthday by enjoying a good old singalong toFly Me to the Moon, My Way, Thats Life, Strangers in the Night, It Had to be You,and many more!
WINTER SOLSTICE (21st Dec)
Winter may bring with it longer nights and colder weather, but when you are tucked up inside a cosy home it can be wonderful to look out at the changing weather and scenery. It is lovely to watch snow falling, through the window, or to wake up to see the ground covered in a twinkling of frost. So, grab a blanket and a cup of tea to warm you up, and enjoy some winter-themed activities together.
