November Wall Planner Activities

Winter is very much upon us, as November brings with it frosty mornings and cold, fresh days to awake the senses. It can be a lovely time of year, enjoying the landscapes of white frost and the low sun creating a magical glow over everything.

There are also many events throughout this month to keep you busy! Celebrate Bonfire Night on the 5th November with some firework crafts and toffee apples. Hold your own remembrance service with your residents to mark Armistice Day and make sure you have plenty of poppies to pass round.

Children In Need takes place on 14th November, a fun and charitable event that can get everyone involved with some great reminiscence activities, and you can enjoy watching it on TV together for some evening entertainment.

BONFIRE NIGHT (5th Nov)
“Remember, remember, the fifth of November…”. Many of your residents will have fond memories of Bonfire Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Night. It is celebrated with bonfires and huge firework displays nowadays, but many years ago it was more common to have local village bonfires, small garden fireworks displays, sparklers, and a Guy. Does anyone remember collecting a penny for the Guy?

GURU NANAK JAYANTI (5th Nov)
Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, is a Sikh festival celebrating the birth of the founder of Sikhism. This year, the celebration takes place on 5th November.The Sikh religion is based on the teachings of ten gurus, and this day celebrates Guru Nanaks teachings of peace, friendship and virtue.The day is celebrated with prayers, hymns and communities coming together to share food. Take part in some creative activities to celebrate this Sikh festival, from the traditional hand art of mehndi, to sensory spice sensations.

REMEMBRANCE DAY (11th Nov)
On the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month in 1918, the fighting stopped and an armistice was declared. This marked the end of the First World War, a war that had lasted four years and stolen far too many lives. The Remembrance Sunday services will take place on 9th Nov and will be televised on the BBC to watch.

CHILDREN IN NEED (14th Nov)
BBC Children in Need is a UK charity that supports disadvantaged children and young people.Each November they have a televised fundraising show hosted by well-known presenters and featuring appearances by many celebrities! This year will be shown on BBC One at 7pm on Friday 14th Nov. Find out more about what’s in store for viewers here

ANNI-FRID LYNGSTAD (ABBA) BORN (15th Nov 1945)
Celebrate Anna-Frid’s birthday!ABBA were one of the most prolific pop groups in the 1970s. The Swedish group started in 1972 andshot to fame after winning the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with the songWaterloo. They dominated the charts throughout the 1970s with their many hits and theirsongs are still played at wedding receptions and parties today, timeless classics that get everyone up and dancing across all age groups!

ST ANDREW’S DAY (30th Nov)
Scotlands national day is celebrated with traditional food, whisky, Scottish music and ceilidhs are held in village halls across the country. Its a great opportunity to showcase Scottish culture and celebrate with residents from all nations! So, raise your Scottish saltire flags, pour a nip of whisky, and play some Scottish music to get you all into the spirit!
