We hope you have all enjoyed a glorious summer, taking advantage of the sunshine and warm weather to enjoy time in gardens or outfor walks. Time outdoors in the fresh air can be uplifting and restorative. Let’s hope we still have a warm September to enjoy.

September is packed with events to keep your residents engaged and entertained. From celebrating the Macmillan Coffee Morning and the annual Day of Arts in Care Homes, to recognising Merchant Navy Day and enjoying the Ryder Cup with any of your golf enthusiasts!

Take time this month to take in the changing colours of the scenery as the leaves turn golden and conkers drop from the trees. Enjoy autumn creeping in.

GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF BEGINS (2nd Sept)
The Great British Bake Off will kick off this month with its 16th series. This much-loved British series sees amateur baking contestants battle it out each week with their impressive bakes.Each week is themed to test the contestants skills with baking, pastry, biscuit making, bread, French patisserie, and many more. A great opportunity to enjoy some baking activities in your care setting.

MERCHANT NAVY DAY (3rd Sept)
Each year on 3rd September, Merchant Navy Day is celebrated. Its a day filled with honour and recognition for the brave souls of the Merchant Navy. The Merchant Navy played a crucial role during both world wars, ensuring vital supplies reached their destinations despite dangerous waters. Today, they continue this essential service, handling over 90% of the UKs imports and exports. Some of your residents or their family members may have been part of the Merchant Navy or worked at sea on ships and vessels. Celebrating Merchant Navy Day is a great way to remember and appreciate the work of these unsung heroes.

DAY OF ARTS IN CARE HOMES (24th Aug)
August sees Edinburgh transformed into a hive of activity for the famous Edinburgh International Festival. The Edinburgh Fringe is a huge part of the Festival, attracting comedians good and bad alongside unique performers aiming to wow the audiences with their acts! It is a busy and fun-filled month to enjoy in the Scottish capital and celebrate some Scottish traditions.

MACMILLAN COFFE MORNING (26th Aug)
Friday 26th September is the date for the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning a chance to raise money to support those who are living with cancer, and to enjoy a social event with your residents and their families.In 2024, these coffee mornings raised an incredible 17 million! Hold your won coffee morning and invite in friends and family to help raise money for this important charity. You can find resources to support you here

AUTUMN – SEASONAL ACTIVITIES
Autumn is a wonderful season, full of changes and beautiful colours in nature. It may indicate the end of summer, but Autumn can bring with it another enjoyable season. Autumn will bring some strong memories for many of your residents. Remembering crisp, fresh walks, crunching through fallen leaves on the ground, picking apples and collecting conkers to play with friends. The nights may be drawing in, but there are plenty of seasonal activities to engage your residents in this Autumn.

THE RYDER CUP (26th 28th Sept)
The Ryder Cup is a biennial golf tournament that sees America and Europe battle it out for glory. Both teams have 12 golfers and the tournament takes place over three days. The tournament is moved between American courses and European courses, and this year it is taking place at the Bethpage Black Course, Farmingdale, New York. Europe took the trophy at the last meeting in 2023 will they hold on to it this year? For any of your residents who enjoy watching golf, the action will be shown on Sky Sports channels, but there will be highlights on the BBC each night.
