We love nothing more than hearing from our readers, especially when it’s to share their own memories or experiences. Alan Merryweather recently made contact to let us know how a recent Daily Sparkle column about pens reminded him of the first time he discovered biro pens for sale.
“I used to go to my London school by Underground. I clearly remember ca. 1950, W H Smith at their kiosk on Queen’s Park station on the Bakerloo line, selling Biros for 55/- (2.75). Later the price was reduced to 45/- (2.25).
When a boy appeared at school with one we all clustered round to see what it looked like and how the writing was.”
Thank you for sharing this with us, Alan.
We love hearing your stories and activity ideas. We invite you to submit them to Reader’s Corner by emailing
