A huge congratulations to Carole Abernathy of Bannview House Care Home, Priory Adult Care, who won this year’s ‘Activity Coordinator of the Year’ award, which we sponsor at the National Dementia Care Awards. A well-deserved winner; Carole especially stood out because she exemplified person-centred care and was totally committed to the goal that every single resident enjoyed meaningful activities.
And also a big well done to Joy Watson of Dementia Havens, for winning the ‘Exceptional Contribution by a Person Living with Dementia’ award. This is an award we created a few years ago to focus on the incredible impact made by those who live with dementia everyday but are still changing the lives of those around them. Joy was recognised for her initiative Dementia Havens, which is dedicated to raising awareness in the community about the ways that people in customer-facing roles can help people living with dementia, their carers and families. The judges said: “Joy does not see barriers, but opportunities. She is always ready and happy to help others, and is a calming influence for people who are in distress.” You can read more about it here.
