We loved seeing these wonderful photos of Doreen, a resident at Parklands Court Care Home. Pat, the activity coordinator at Parklands, says, “Doreen, who has a hobby for decorating cakes, designed and decorated this Easter cake and also gave me a lesson!”
Doreen’s daughter, Sharren, added, “My mum will be 86 in May. She has been making birthday, anniversary and wedding cakes since she was 18. The house always had an air of sweetness and Christmas was delightful with different smells. My dad always said he was a ‘cake widower’ which made us laugh. She’s incredibly talented. It’s amazing for me to see her in her element, and to see that her skills haven’t faded. She has watched cake decorating change from royal icing to the newest Australian sugarcraft. She taught people all over & made some wonderful friends. Plus, I always had the best birthday cakes! As you can tell, I’m immensely proud of her.”
Thank you for sharing this with us, Pat and Sharren. It is so heart-warming to see residents doing what they love best.
