September Competition: Coffee Mornings

On 24th September, Macmillan Cancer Support is hosting its ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’. To tie in with this fabulous charity fundraising event, we wanted to focus our competition around the much-loved ritual of a cup of tea or coffee with a friend or loved one.

WHAT TO DO

Host a coffee morning in your home, and invite your residents’ friends or family. Gather your residents’ stories about catching up with old friends, good times shared over a cuppa, or even their favourite cafe.

Collecting this material should be enjoyable, as it provides an opportunity for conversation and sharing. By listening and recording people’s memories you will also increase your knowledge and understanding of their lives and experiences.

Open questions are good as they encourage the sharing of personal memories. With the residents’ permission, record these memories and enter our competition. Don’t forget to also add any of this new information to their life histories which you keep in the care home.

SEND IN YOUR STORIES & MEMORIES

We will choose four winners. Each winning activity coordinator will receive a certificate, and the winning entries will also be reproduced as columns in the Daily Sparkle, attributed to the resident.

The competition will be open from 13th September – 15th October. To enter, write your resident’s story in no more than 100 words on the special entry form here.

All entries must be received in this way to be included in the competition. You will also need your care home reference number – a four- or five-digit number found in the subject line of the email which has your Daily or Weekly Sparkles attached.

All entries must be received by 15th October 2021 and the winners will be notified by 15th November 2021.
