‘Reader’s Corner’ – Doreen remembers wobbly eggs

We are delighted to share a story submitted to us by Joe Ward, Activities Manager at Prospect House Care Home in Cheshire, on behalf of his resident, Doreen.

“When I was teaching in Ellesmere Port back in the 1990s I had a little boy from Brooklyn in my class. His father had started a new job here in the UK, so his whole family had moved over. One day, the boy asked me if I’d ever seen a wobbly egg. He had a very broad American accent, so it sounded more like ‘warbly’ than wobbly. I didn’t know what he meant, so I simply replied ‘no’. So he offered to bring one in for me to see. The next day, as promised, he appeared with what looked like a partly boiled egg, which he held carefully in the palm of his hand. He shook it and then shouted “look, a warbly egg!” And was right, it was definitely a wobbly egg.”

Joe says, “I hope this could be featured as it would make her day. We read the Daily Sparkle every day without fail and it is a massive part of our day here.”

Thank you for sharing this lovely memory with us, Joe & Doreen.
