We are delighted to share a letter submitted to us by one of our readers, Gladys Harding.
“I am responding to Geoff’s question published in the ‘Over To You’ column in the Daily Sparkle issue dated 31st January. The system he describes worked on compressed air. In the department store Keddies, in Southend-on-Sea, the money went all the way up to the top floor, where the counting house was located. I worked there back in 1947! Lamson Paragon made the tubes and pipes. It was very noisy in the counting house due to the constant whooshing and banging of the tubes arriving. My job was to put the change in and send the tube back down.”
