A wonderful activity, courtesy of Australian website Memory Lane Therapy, for when it’s too cold to get out in the garden, but you still want a chance for your residents to connect with nature.
All you need is some potting mix, a large table area covered in newspaper or a large drop sheet, and some large old spoons which make great spades for everyone. Set up the crockery/planters at each end of the table so everyone can view and choose their pieces. And then have the buckets of potting mix at each end of the table and cuttings within easy reach for everyone.
Planting succulent plants in old crockery is a lovely way to connect residents with old china patterns, share the task of preparing and planting, and chat with friends while they work.
